Moving day is stressful enough without discovering that half your plates have shattered or that you can't lift the box containing your books. Avoid these incredibly common packing mistakes to ensure a smooth transition.

Mistake 1: The Giant Book Box

Books are deceptively heavy. Packing a massive box full of hardcovers is a guaranteed way to break the box—or your back. Always pack heavy items like books in small boxes, and light items like linens in large boxes.

Mistake 2: Leaving Empty Space

A box with empty space is a box waiting to be crushed. During transit, boxes are stacked. If a box isn't filled to the top, it will cave in. Fill all empty gaps with crumpled packing paper or towels to provide structural integrity.

Mistake 3: Waiting Until Moving Day

Never leave packing until the van is idling outside. Packing always takes twice as long as you estimate. Start packing non-essentials weeks in advance. When your Hefted driver arrives, every box should be sealed, labeled, and ready to go.
